General guidelines for troubleshooting GTInet.org access issues

  • Ensure you have Internet Explorer version 6.0 or above installed on your machine.
  • Check that you have “Automatic logon with current username and password” as the security setting for User Authentication/Logon AND *.gtinet.org listed within your Local intranet zones list

  • See if other users within your member firm can access the GTInet.org site successfully. This will determine whether it is the machine specifically or an issue with your member firm’s network infrastructure.
  • If possible, check if you can access GTInet.org outside the office when connected via VPN.
  • Username information will be formatted differently if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
    For Windows 2000 users:
    Username: US12345
    Password: password
    Domain: GTINETAD
    For Windows XP users:
    Username: GTINETAD\US12345
    Password: password
  • Were you able to access GTInet.org before? Was it working and it stopped? If so, what changed and when?
  • Can you get to any other Grant Thornton websites (for example: http://www.grantthornton.com or http://www.gti.org)?

Scenario 3: Page cannot be displayed message stating you are not authorized to view this page

User issue:

Receives the following error message when attempting to log into GTInet.org

Websupport recommendation:

User will have to bypass their proxy server to access the site.
From your workstation:
The web server requests a special type of authentication that isn't allowed through proxy servers.
If this doesn't work, you will have to do some proxy site configuration on your network server to let gtinet through directly and turn off proxy cache for anything on gtinet.org.

You have to completely bypass the proxy for just *.GTInet.org

  • Open up a new Internet Explorer browser window
  • Go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections tab
  • Click the LAN Settings... button at the bottom
  • Check the box that says "Use a proxy server for your LAN"
  • Click the Advanced button in the Proxy server section
  • In the Exceptions section at the bottom, you should type in *.gtinet.org. You should see information filled in for your proxy.
